Officers searching for missing Katie Kenyon have found the body of a woman in an area of the Forest of Bowland, Lancashire police said.
The force said although the woman’s identity had not been formally confirmed, they believed it to be Kenyon.
A postmortem is being carried out to establish the cause of death.
Det Supt Gary Brooks, the head of Lancashire police’s major investigation unit, 말했다: “Following extensive police inquiries and after a number of days of searching, I can now sadly confirm that we have found a body and at this time we believe it to be that of Katie Kenyon.
“Katie’s family have been told and my heart goes out to them at this time. We have specially trained officers supporting them at this difficult time.
“I would like to thank the public and the media for all the help they have given us during what has been a protracted, complex and very emotive search, and I would also like to thank both the partner agencies and all of the police officers and staff who have been involved in the search for Katie.
“While this is not the conclusion to those searches any of us would have wished for, I know the family appreciate those efforts.
“Once again, my thoughts today are with Katie’s family and all of her loved ones.”
Kenyon, 33, was last seen on Friday 22 April when she got into a Ford Transit van in Todmorden Road, 번리, at about 9.30am. It is thought she travelled in the van heading towards the Bolton-by-Bowland area of Lancashire.
Andrew Burfield, 50, was charged on Wednesday with her murder. He appeared via video link at Preston crown court on Friday and was remanded in custody with a trial set to begin on 14 십일월.
Police carried out searches in Gisburn Forest, a remote beauty spot in east Lancashire. 이상 60 specialist search officers from four police forces scoured the area of dense forest looking for Kenyon. The hunt involved police and fire service officers, dog teams, mounted police, mountain rescue volunteers and drones.
Speaking on Tuesday, Brooks said the police were holding on to “slim hope” that the young woman was still alive and that her family were “extremely upset”.
